Hyde Park Duplex

Hyde Park Duplex | Fitting into the Historic Neighborhood
Kansas City, MO

Kansas City boasts a rich history of excellent architecture, including its development of the historic Shirtwaist housing type. Characterized by its two or two-and-a-half story height with the first floor of local stone or brick, thousands of examples spread throughout the urban core.

Working in the historically registered Hyde Park, neighborhood involvement was critical in designing and developing this new two-family structure. The neighborhood felt deeply about creating a building that would carry on the area’s architectural tradition, while the developer needed to meet a tight budget.

We developed a more streamlined version of the traditional shirtwaist home for the neighborhood to fulfill these requirements. The structure consists of two stacked units, each accessible from the wrap-around stone-clad porch in front and featuring three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, and private parking.
