The owners of a historic shirtwaist home in Hyde Park sought a permanent solution to replace their temporary carport after acquiring an adjacent vacant lot. Their vision included a new garage, a flex space with a golf simulator, an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), and cohesive landscaping to complement their growing family’s needs. 

 In collaboration with Jeffrey Preuss Landscapes, we developed a detached structure that houses the garage, golf simulator, and a second-floor ADU with separate access. The design thoughtfully mirrors the scale and proportions of the existing home, maintaining the character of the streetscape while introducing modern functionality. 

 Between the two structures, we designed a contemporary outdoor retreat with a built-in firepit, providing a versatile space for outdoor cooking, dining, and socializing. This inviting covered area enhances the family’s backyard experience and strengthens their connection to the walkable, historic neighborhood.
